Proton Therapy related projects and other medical applications

BERTE worked on human interfaces (such as thehand pendant, feedbackscreensintegration, patient enclosure, digital imaging device integration, control room, etc) for thefirst IBA Proton Therapy facility. IonBeamApplication (IBA) is a world leading manufacturerof particular accelerators and proton therapy facilities.

The Proteus Plus Gantry Rolling Floor (GRF) was a mobile floor system designed to be compatible with the already existing IBA Gantry (and thus retrofittable for existing facilities). For this project we defined the system architecture (mechanical) and also did the design of the different variants of the Nozzle housings, the Patient Enclosure and the interface panels with the Treatment Room wall including the integration of various human interfaces.

The Proteus One Compact Gantry is the next generation IBA Proton Therapy Gantry. BERTE was asked to present concept proposals for a Gantry Rolling Floor specific for this new system. Our ‘wave’ proposal was selected for further development which was done by Aeriane and Philips Design.

For Lilly Medical we did concept studies for various veterinarian applications. One example is a polypropylene shroud protecting a fragile glass bottle. Although the main function of the shroud is to guaranty that the bottle survives a 2m drop it also was given other features. Its ergonomic design protects the user against self-injection (a high risk in this application) and the product is easier to handle and store. Although existing designs didn’t have these features, the new product provides the same level of impact protection with less material used reducing the manufacturing cost whilst enhancing functionality and safety.
